Tonita I, México en Compostela

Admittedly, this was a second choice, as the restaurant that we wanted to go to was closed on this Sunday at noon. Server was attentive at the beginning but during the service it dropped off, although restaurant was not busy. Drinks came in a timely manner and food order taken. Wife and I ordered Nachos con carne to share, and when it came we were less than impressed. A brown gravy and cheese covered the chips and meat and did not look appetizing at all. No much in the way of flavour. I would not recommend this dish. Others ordered shrimp dishes and looked better than what we had. An average meal and service. Not likely to return should we be in the area again.

We arrived to a very slow restaurant and were seated relatively promptly. That said I am NOT a fan of children working as waiters. We had a very young boy maybe 10-12 yo as a waiter. I’m not being critical but rather honest as I always am in my review. I think he might be more prepared with a few more years of age and maturity but he seemed to less consensus than an adult. I’m also old school where children should not be handling any liquor what so ever. Service was average at best. One thing I noted immediately was the price difference between a menu in English vs Spanish. We all ordered different meals and I’ll include some photos of them all but I’ll be reviewing only my dish. I ordered Camerones Ala de abla más picante 🌶️. I was very pleased with the flavor and spicy was of the dish. I received about 12 average size shrimp some white rice, a small dab of cook beet and pineapple, which was quite tasty and a small bit of salted carrots, celery. Despite the good flavor I was kind of surprised to get only 12 average size shrimp for 210$ pesos so the value for the cost is not good. During the meal we kept getting but by some small insects the were either fleas or something resembling a gnat. I know atlesse 2 of the 3 parties were overcharged on the bill. All said the great dish was really overshadowed by the lack of a knowledgeable server and the value in the dish. I’m not sure I’d give them a second try. It was a rather disappointing experience and this was my first time visiting. I hope others have a more pleasant experience than I did and maybe that’s why it’s wasn’t busy at prime time.
