Moshe Cube Kosher Restaurant & Grill, México en Solidaridad

Moshe Cube (pronounced Kubeh) is a kosher Mediterranean restaurant in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It offers delicious examples of Moroccan/Mediterranean food with hints of foods from other middle-eastern cultures. Unlike many kosher restaurants there is no dairy here so the menu contains meat, vegetarian and vegan items. The restaurant is often crowded at prime times so I would recommend making reservations. Our family started our meal by sharing one of the best examples of hummus we had ever tasted.It was smooth and just the right thickness. To scoop it up we were supplied with a generous amount of both house-made pita and laffa. For our mains my wife and I both ordered the chicken schnitzel which was pleasantly crispy on the outside with moist tender flattened chicken breast encased in a shell of breading. The schnitzel was accompanied by light, fluffy rice and a small amount of assorted vegetables. Our daughter ordered the Soup of the Day because, by the time of our reservation, the restaurant was already out of all the fish being offered that day. Instead she dug into a beet cube soup which contained a number of meat-filled dumplings. The portion of this item wass so big she could not finish it so she took the remainder home with her. All-in-all, we found the food at Moshe Cube to be tasty, the portions generous and the taste to be just out of the ordinary enough to perk up our taste buds. the service was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. We make it a point to eat at least once at Moshe Cube whenever we are in Playa del Carmen.

In hindsight we should have arrived with bigger appetites...the food we ate was very tasty and felt "authentic". We ate outdoors next to a lovely little water feature and treed garden, which despite being a short walk from 5th Avenue was very pleasant and a nice change from the high-activity hustle. We were very happy with our lunch, and only regret not finding enough time to come back for dinner (we drove past in a taxi one night and it looked like a really fun lounge atmosphere). Next time we are in Playa del Carmen we will be back.
